The credit intermediation sector in Italy has profoundly changed after the reform of 2010 which has introduced more detailed and selective rules that have ensured greater protection for consumers. The supervision by the Agents and Mediators Body (Oam) had effects both on the number of agents and credit brokers and on the quality of the offer, as it originated a practice and a culture of compliance for these subjects. The number of registered subjects has drastically decreased and then returned to grow from 2013 to 2018; the same trend is observed for profitability. In terms of compliance, the investment made in supervision has led to a reduction in the penalties.
