InsurTech perception among young customers: the need for cultural change

Information and communication technologies (Ict) are expected to bring disruptive innovations in the insurance industry. The InsurTech phenomenon is wide and complex, ranging from simple comparison websites to sophisticated applications exploiting Big data and Artificial intelligence. This paper presents the main findings of a survey on the knowledge and perception of young customers regarding InsurTech. Results show great interest and curiosity for new technologies, accompanied by uncertainty and concern, as it often happens with disruptive innovations. Our results suggest that supply-side strategies should be complemented by a demand-side increase in the knowledge and awareness of new technologies to fully satisfy consumer needs.
