The listing of open-end mutual funds in Italy started in December 2014. This novelty should encourage, at least theoretically, the access of retail investors to less expensive asset management instruments. However, the features of the asset management market in Italy highlight obvious uncertainties about the possible growth of this segment of the Italian stock exchange. This paper aims at investigating the status quo of the open-end mutual funds market - one year after its introduction in Italy - in order to assess the related growth perspectives in light of the implementation of the MiFid II directive.
