Several studies have shown that, in the Us and Europe, as corporate debt grows, their investments fall. In Italy, on the other hand, the situation appears different: there has been no correlation between the increase in debts and the trend of investment by Smes. In addition, the cost of credit has fallen sharply and the profits of Smes have increased, at least until 2019, favoring self-financing. In the future, we need new key elements such as the end of the pandemic, a new incentive policy, a period of economic recovery influencing the morale of entrepreneurs. Companies need to increase their capitalisation and have long-term financial resources in order to resume their investment flows.
