Data is essential to understanding how the epidemic is evolving. For this purpose, data must be collected according to an organic design in which interdisciplinarity and cooperation are dominant components. It is necessary to integrate the health surveillance data with those deriving from sample surveys, to assess the probability of contagion, to monitor the school system and territorial medicine networks. A suitable monitoring system must be built to support political choices and motivate the behavior of people and economic operators. Transparency must be implicit as a distinctive value by the institutions responsible for making decisions to combat the epidemic. Only in this way is it possible to gain credibility and earn the trust of citizens, which is essential for getting out of the epidemic as soon as possible.
