The banking crisis management system should be rethought to answer fully to the need of a complex and evolving financial system, operating in constantly changing markets and regulatory scenarios. It must be able to respond in an effective and balanced way to the protection needs of the different categories of stakeholders. It must be credible, transparent, flexible and timely. The Italian experience offers food for thought. The recent opening of a public consultation on the revision of the crisis management discipline by the Eu Commission represents an important initiative in view of a better regulation of banking insolvency.
