The pandemic has accelerated a series of ongoing trends in the relationship between banks, businesses and citizens. The banks, despite being already on a path towards excellent levels of capitalization before the end of 2019, suffered from a structural loss of margins that they were directing through the offer of new and more profitable services to companies; on the other hand, the structural difficulties of Italian Smes (undercapitalization, liquidity deficit) have been made more evident by the prolonged pandemic period. The acceleration of new trends, driven by the global crisis, digital ecosystems, Artificial intelligence, cloud and information sharing, is the prerequisite for a paradigm shift in the relationship between banks, businesses and citizens.
