Bank Digital Champions in Italy and in a global perspective: how digital banking rewards performance

During the Covid-19 crisis, there was an acceleration of banks’ digital skills: the limitations have triggered actions to support customers (e.g. fully digital processes), and to rethink the way banks were used to work. Against this backdrop, Deloitte conducted the fourth edition of the Digital Banking Maturity, a global benchmark research involving 318 banks in 39 countries to identify trends in the industry and impact of digitalization on business performances. The results showed, along with a clear improvement of Italian banks, that the most digitally advanced players (Digital Champions) outperformed their competitors on some key balance sheet indicators (e.g. Roe + 2 p.p., Cost/income - 4 p.p.).
