Banks are increasingly committed to responsible and sustainable behavior. It is therefore important to be able to discern between authentic initiatives and a holistic approach to environmental, social and good governance responsibility, compared to pure communication strategies. A new indicator, the Esgi Score, aims to measure and compare the commitment of banks and to verify the ability to maintain high standards, assessing both direct and indirect impacts. The Esgi Score was tested on a sample of 38 Italian banks. The measurement of direct and indirect impacts is carried out on the basis of the information available in the public documentation made available online, highlighting the desirability of increasing levels of transparency, in particular to assess the impacts of credit and investment activities.
