Capital ratios and disclosure bias: the evidence from the Asset Quality Review

The Comprehensive Assessment showed a significant difference between regulatory capital ratios reported by banks and those calculated by the Ecb. The paper analyzes the factors associated to this distortion and the results show that the gap is lower for banks operating in a highly developed capital market, having a corporate culture aimed to competition and a low level of financial leverage.
