The growing interest in new digital technologies is fueled by the possibility of obtaining significant advantages. Blockchain is one of the emerging technologies in all sectors, as its applications can be adapted in multiple contexts. The blockchain technology stimulates a rethinking of the way in which business processes are managed, thanks to its ability to carry out transactions without a central entity that acts as a guarantor of trust. This paper represents an exploratory study based on the case study methodology. The research was conducted in the banking sector, influenced more than others by technology, and involved five Italian banks. The objective is to understand how the adoption of the blockchain could affect the banking business, changing processes and creating products or services.
