The European banking sector is undergoing significant regulatory and technological transformations, redefining the competitive landscape. Digitization, especially in retail banking and payments, is pushing banks towards multi-channel models, personalized services and open banking ecosystems, while the tokenization of financial assets is emerging as a new frontier full of prospects but with still uncertain impacts. To address these challenges, which entail increasing operational and reputational risks, banks must address structural issues related to aging It infrastructures, data governance, outsourcer management, and the need for new skills. Banking regulation and supervision need to adapt to ensure proper risk governance, preserving trust in the system and its resilience.
