Technologies, sustainability and rights protections must grow in parallel, just as vigilance and commitment to security. There must be a balance between technological innovations, sustainable development and guarantees, with rules and controls that avoid disorder and widespread abuse on the Internet. In the absence of a truly effective global institution to issue and enforce global rules, the European dimension is the minimum to develop rules that respect freedom and sustainability. The theories that supported the «end of History» were fallacious: History progresses, and scientific research and technologies favor rising life expectancy and more sustainable working conditions.
