The objective of this work is to assess the impact of the new technologies used in FinTech on the banking risk system, also outlining some of the response strategies adopted and to adopt, with particular regard to external digital transformation.The data relating to the investment rounds in the banks’ FinTech companies are analyzed, in order to assess the impact on activities and risks. The first evidence suggests a substitution effect: banks seem to pursue an acquisition strategy aimed at offering innovative products and services by new controlled entities.
