In January, the President of the Italian Banking Association, Antonio Patuelli, held numerous institutional meetings in Brussels dedicated to strategic issues. «The banking sector is operating in increasingly complex regulatory, fiscal and legal contexts, which require continuous initiatives to comply with constantly evolving rules. The growing uncertainty about the application of the Basel3+ international standards generates questions and concerns. It is crucial that the Eu uses the flexibility available to prevent European banks from being at a competitive disadvantage. In an economy increasingly oriented towards sustainability, responding to the growing expectations of society and regulatory authorities is indispensable, but it is not up to banks to play the role of absolute arbiters of sustainability». Patuelli presented the document «Banks at the heart of the European challenge», a summary of ABI's proposals in the context of European challenges.
