Ten years after its launch, the Capital Market Union project has a renewed centrality in the debate on the competitiveness of the European economy, due to the relevance and urgency of the challenges of the so-called transitions: climate, digital and demographic. The comparison with the dynamics of the Us capital market emphasises the need for a qualitative leap forward in Eu policy which concerns the acceleration on the regulatory front accompanied by a greater focus on the actions that can have the greatest impact on competitiveness levels. The comparison with the Us capital market shows the path to take is above all that of strengthening supplementary pension system, giving pension funds the task and management flexibility to pursue a greater diversification towards investments supporting economic innovation.
