Agriculture remains a sector of absolute importance in the Italian economy, even if the era of specialization of agricultural credit can be considered over with the Banking Law of 1993. In fact, financial support for the agri-food system continues to be important in order to accommodate its specificities, and for this reason a close collaboration between ABI and the Associations of the agricultural world is essential. The support provided by the banks is already significant today, but there is room for improvement, abandoning some «tools» and renewing others according to new needs: in particular, the reference is to agricultural privilege, agricultural bills, and the subsidiary guarantee of Ismea. It is also necessary to promote both the development of larger companies, with higher production and managerial capacities, and relations with the banking world that go beyond traditional credit, moving towards more sophisticated capital markets products.
