To characterize contemporary capitalism, or digital capitalism, one cannot fail to start with digital platforms whose typical activity is not to produce goods or services but to encourage meetings between various subjects, for many different reasons. The variants of the platforms are numerous: e-commerce marketplaces, industrial and manufacturing platforms, sharing economy platforms that connect various types of service providers with consumers, and advertising platforms. In these notes, to contribute to the understanding of the characteristics and modes of operation of contemporary capitalism, I will advance some reflections on marketplace platforms for e-commerce and service sharing platforms, as well as on a crucial phenomenon such as the use and methods of appropriation of personal data.
