Information and communication technologies have changed the way companies are financed. Investments in intangible assets are poorly suited to financing via bank loans and public capital markets. At a global level, private equity (PE) has played an important role in providing resources for innovative companies. In Europe, the PE industry, and in particular the Venture Capital segment, remains severely underfunded compared to the US.The development of financial structures that can support innovation requires overcoming the fragmentation of capital markets along national borders.
