In the new digital ecosystem, Financial Regulators and Tax Authorities address three key challenges: defining common principles to ensure coherence in the regulatory framework for digital activities; clearly define the scope of the rules; promote international cooperation and intersectoral coordination. The development of new approaches to regulation and taxation, alongside traditional ones, is crucial to avoid unnecessary constraints on innovation and safeguard financial stability and integrity, the proper functioning of markets and payment systems, the protection of citizens' rights and compliance with tax obligations. Policymakers, central banks and regulators have an essential role to play in reconciling innovation and development of efficient and secure financial and payment systems, which can also provide a solid anchor for the tax system.
