A sample of 1,087 Italian university students was surveyed to investigate their financial education and its determinants. Financial education of first-year and third-year business and non-business students was assessed using a 20-item test aimed at measuring both financial knowledge and financial wisdom. Results show that students’ financial knowledge is not high, although a kind of financial wisdom is widespread. We find that financial education is related to the choice of economic studies, gender (with male students performing better), and investment operations conducted in family. Paradoxically, students who feel less confident about their financial skills are less interested in financial education programs
