This paper explores gender disparities in financial literacy in Italy, using data collected between 2020 and 2023. The results confirm significant gender gaps in financial knowledge to the detriment of women. In addition, it emerges that men and women acquire financial literacy in different ways. Intra-gender financial knowledge is strongly influenced by demographic and socioeconomic variables, while cultural, social and economic factors play a crucial role in explaining the gender gap. The research provides policymakers with actionable insights to promote women's financial inclusion by increasing their participation in the labour market and financial literacy. Promoting women's economic empowerment not only improves individual well-being, but also has also positive effects on the entire economy.
