Maritime routes have always been reliable, times programmable, flows continuous. Today this paradigm has been altered. The global economy shows a complex landscape of geopolitical risks, structural weaknesses and fluctuating global dynamics. The current picture of shipping sees ups and downs, advances and difficulties. Increasingly complex volatility changes the resilience of shipping itself: no longer just careful and proactive reaction but planning. Ports and logistics communities become competitive factors, as an efficient port reduces the total cost, does not lengthen the time and makes the local economy more attractive. To ensure the resilience of Italian ports, it is necessary not only to diversify outlet markets, suppliers and energy sources, but also to strengthen the ability of the logistics system to adapt quickly to ever-changing scenarios.
