The paper presents a research experience aiming to measure the effectiveness of a financial education initiative directed to young pre-adolescent students exposed to an intervention provided by the Museum of Savings in Turin, which consists of a lesson dealing with basic concepts of financial education. To assess its effectiveness, a questionnaire was delivered to the participants containing questions on the topics covered in the intervention. The results show that overall, the initiative was effective, given the increase in students' financial literacy, with better results in the area of knowledge rather than behaviour. Furthermore, no relevant differences were found regarding socio-demographic variables. The article's contribution is mainly to produce evidence that can offer useful suggestions and insights for the design of school financial education programmes.
