In correspondence with the health emergency due to Covid-19, Italians, who have always been characterized by a marked preference for the use of cash for their purchases, show a change in payment habits, preferring contactless cards and payment apps. This work aims to investigate this change considering worries relating to the transmission and spread of the Coronavirus and the levels of financial literacy. The results of the econometric analysis conducted on a sample of 2,864 respondents to a survey administered between May and June 2020 show how the fear of contracting Covid-19 has changed the payment choices of Italians who are more inclined to use M- payment.
