The relationship between profitability and the banks’ strategic choices is highlighted by a thematic analysis carried out by the Ecb which examined the three main areas of intervention needed to improve banks’ levels of profitability in the medium to long term: budget management, funding strategies and the inclusion of Risk Management functions in the planning process. In this perspective, the tools provided by Alm, the implementation of Scenario Analysis techniques, the strengthening of the Balance Sheet Management framework and the Srep approach for the assessment of the banks’ funding process are crucial.
