The 2021 Nobel Prize in Economics was awarded to three scholars, David Card, Joshua D. Angrist and Guido W. Imbens, who demonstrated how complex questions can be answered using natural experiments. In particular, the recognition to Card went for labour market studies, while Angrist and Imbens were awarded for their insights into causal relationships in economics. This article, which represents the recurring stage of ongoing research work, analyzes the three winners of the 2021 Nobel Prize, their research method, the main fields of study, describes some curiosities commented on by the graduates themselves and by Adam Smith, the interviewer of the Nobel Prizes, and makes some final considerations.
