The integration of climate change mitigation and adaptation into credit guarantee schemes

Smes access to the financial resources to carry out ecological transition is still limited by several obstacles. The diffusion of public credit guarantee schemes (Pgs) that include environmental criteria in their operating model can significantly incentivize financial intermediaries to support the implementation of green projects. The Guidelines recently issued by the World Bank lay the foundations for the integration of environmental factors into the strategies and operating models of Pgs. Not only could these factors be included among the eligibility criteria of the beneficiary companies, but also among the requirements for the financial intermediaries to apply for the guarantee, rewarding the best environmental performances.
