The cases of France and Germany show that Italy's demographic spiral, which worsened after the pandemic, can be slowed down and the trend can be reversed. The measures contained in the National recovery plan and in the Family Act, if implemented with a systemic and integrated approach, can allow the recovery of life projects frozen during the crisis and act steadily on the birth rate. But it is also essential to encourage an active role of the elderly, developing new enabling technologies, better integrating immigrants, stimulating female labour force participation. All elements that tend to generate positive effects on births. Italy does not need odd measures, but it has to help more and better to realize professional and life projects.
