The pension plans can play a decisive role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by integrating Esg factors into their investment decisions. In this paper, we study the role of Corporate Governance mechanisms, i.e. the link between the governance orientation towards the sustainability (Corporate Social Identity) and the sustainable investment decisions of a representative sample of Italian Pension Plans. The results show that the Corporate Social Identity can have an impact on the sustainable investment choices of Pension Plans, providing a role assessment of some corporate governance mechanisms in being driving factors of sustainability-oriented portfolio choices.
