In Italy, the maritime economy supply chain is worth 65 billion euros in added value. But shipping, ports and logistics are not only important in themselves; they are above all a pillar on which the entire Italian economy rests, given that 474 million tons of goods are loaded and unloaded per year by sea. In addition to this primary function, the sector also plays a fundamental role in Italy's geo-economic positioning in the Mediterranean, which – despite political and military crises – is an area of increased global centrality. As a matter of fact, ports are strategic not only for goods and passengers, but also as energy hubs and for submarine cable connections. Central and neuralgic factors of the entire economy that also require the banking sector to pay attention and analytical skills in this area.
